Sunday Children's Programs

Nursery hours are from 8:30-9:30am; 9:45-10:45am; and 11:00-12:15pm

We at the Orcutt Presbyterian Church understand that a child's first experiences in a church setting often reflect how he/she later feels about the church and God. Our focus is to provide nurturing and loving care givers who reflect God's love as they care for the littlest ones. We provide an atmosphere that introduces God's love to the children as well as meeting their developmental needs which encourages their feeling of self-worth.

Here at Orcutt Presbyterian we also are intent on the physical environment so as to reflect the beauty of God's love while providing for the safety and developmental needs of our young children who use the spaces. In a small child, trust comes from knowing they can count on having their physical and emotional needs met. We encourage cuddling and speaking words of encouragement to each child. Our goal is to help each child begin to associate God and the Lord Jesus with loving people, enjoyable activities and experiences in a warm, happy and emotionally safe environment.

Sunday Children's Education Hour 9:45-10:45

We are using the "Faith Weaver" curriculum for our Children's Education Hour. Our Children's Ministries program is dedicated to helping each child relate the stories in the Bible to their everyday lives. We walk with the children through their early stages of faith, surrounding them with prayer and encouragement, so that they will grow into faithful followers of Jesus Christ, learning lessons that they will never forget.
Sunday "School" begins for children 3 years of age where these little ones up through 4 years old are introduced to theological truths in a way that is simple enough to keep their interest, yet meaningful so that they can begin to understand how much God loves them. We help kids at this age learn about Jesus through playtimes.

The 5and 6 year olds learn God loves them through creative projects and activities that help apply the Bible stories to their lives. These Bible stories then become understandable and memorable. In the first and second grade class students are interested in concrete learning experiences and so Faith Weaver helps by using music and dramatizations to help them learn about the Bible and what the stories mean to them today. The active learning method is not new. It was done by the Master Teacher, Jesus over 2000 years ago. The fifth and sixth grade students are challenged by the lessons and are sophisticated enough to help develop their higher-level problem solving skills with an emphasis on applying the Bible lessons to their daily lives.

The Orcutt Presbyterian Church is committed to, "Train a child the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6

Kaleidoscope Sundays 8:45-9:45 and 11:15-12:15

Kaleidoscope is the ever changing activity time during both worship services where the children ages 3 years through 4th grade go to have their own children's church.

Kaleidoscope has been learning about the life of Jesus, the calling of His disciples and His ministry. This theme will continue throughout the coming months. Various activities that bring home the point are presented in an age appropriate form to the children. These activities include cooking projects, craft activities, clay and play-dough sculpting, Christian computer games, painting and music. It is an ever changing area on campus that encourages children to participate in the learning process of their faith.

We separate the three to five year olds and give them their own classroom and teachers. The first through fourth graders also have their own room and set of teachers to guide them through the morning and the Bible lessons. After worship the children are joined with their parents for whatever activities they are ready for next.

The name Kaleidoscope fits well with this type of program. We always have a theme and it always relates back to God's Word.
